Daily travelogue

I just got out of school and had started my first job in an ad firm smacked right in the middle of Joo Chiat Rd.

As those who don't know, Joo Chiat Rd is a freakin long Road, dissected by three parts. Parts nearer to Katong ( not so sleazy ), middle part which is slighty sleazier, and of course the end part which is labelled the 'little vietnam'. From the nick, it's pretty obvious, it's the sleaziest of all Joo Chiat. Guess what, my company of all places have to be right there, on the second floor with a "vietnamese club" right below. To be honest, the flooring between the first and second floor isn't exactly thick and sound proof.

There were a couple of incidences whereby i had to rush a few datelines, and had no choice but to work late. At the turn of 8.30pm ( they seem to be really punctual everytime), the floor starts to vibrate in a melodious manner from the bass, freakin cheesy tunes starts setting in from below. Imagine despite all these, i had to suffer and continue to 'concentrate' at my work. What a feat!

After, i'm done with the work, i will start to head downstairs to open my gate to get out and go home. Wa lah! Smacked right in front of me are a couple of scantily dressed viet girls with a couple of kopitiam beer drinking ah peks sitting at a table, all staring at me. Scenes of singaporean old men speaking 'fluent' vietnamese to the girls are pretty common sight around here.

Interestingly, it's like a dead town in the day, dust and dirt, barely a person in sight and most of the shops are not even open, who would have thought that it would be crowded like orchard in the night. How deceiving?

Now that i'm here everyday, observing the 'night life', i would have to say that the club downstairs have been closed for a few days, now it seems that pub 87 would be a better choice for you ah peks out there! How convincing am i, the part time viet pimp?
